Genital warts (condyloma acuminata) are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which has over 100 different strains. There are certain types that are considered low risk because they very rarely will cause genital or anal cancer. On the other hand, there are types that are considered high risk because, although they rarely cause genital warts, they can lead to cervical or anal pre-cancer and cancer.
HPV is spread by skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity; it does not need to be vaginal or anal intercourse to spread the infection. Most people who become infected with HPV will not have symptoms and will clear the infection on their own. For people who do develop genital warts, there are many options for treatment, all of which are meant to remove the visible warts. There is no cure for genital warts, but there are certain natural remedies that could give relief for its effects.
Genital warts symptoms include itchiness; this includes the penis, scrotum, anal area, vulva (vulvar itch), increased dampness near the growths, women can have an increase in vaginal discharge and the growths can resemble cauliflower near the anus or genitals. Many people with the disease will have no symptoms or signs. Whether you show symptoms or not, if you are infected with the HPV virus, you are contagious and can pass it to others.
For us to be able to hinder the spreading of this disease, we should exercise abstinence. It is the only 100% effective way to avoid these warts. Having a monogamous relationship with a disease free person will help you avoid all sexually transmitted diseases. Condoms are not 100% effective since there can still be skin-to-skin contact during sex. Condoms do however, reduce your chances of getting sexually transmitted diseases, and should be used.
It is not a very desirable situation to be in so lets do everything we can for us to be able to prevent this condition. Let us live a happy and safe sex life. If you really have an active sex life, try and use every precaution you can use so you won't be the one regretting in the end. Always remember that prevention is better than any medication.
